Fortune, of the duo Fortune & Fame, was born Joe
Dotson from a family of entertainers with their own success stories. He’s
the cousin of singing sensations Johnny Mathis, Tracy Chapman, and Arsenio
Hall. It’s no wonder why Fortune exudes with talent.
Fortune started his music career at a young age when he was discovered and
trained by Sam Bostic of the group Art-N-Soul. Fortune connected with the
group Rhythm Rock who later split up in the early 90’s. He then teamed up
with the group Twist of Soul, who had much success while signed with
Absolute Management who also managed Tony, Tone, Toni.
Twist of Soul, although new in the business, gained a large following
through their performances at schools, talent shows, and Juneteenth
festivals that later landed them leadership at the hands of well-known
promoter, Roger Mitchell, who began billing the group opening with Qwame,
Father MC, M.C. Hammer, MC Shy D, the late MC Trouble, E-40, The Click and
a host of other artists.
After Fortune’s great success with Twist of Soul, he embarked on a solo
career as a lead singer with an added emphasis as co-founder of a local
independent music company. With this endeavor, he plans to produce local
talent as well as create a new style and identity to set himself apart
from others tapping into a market waiting to explode.
Fortune, looking for a change to balance his singing talents, hooked up
with Fame a.k.a. (Keith KeeKee Johnson). The musical chemistry was evident
on their first meeting; needless to say, the duo generates great blends
and creates their own wonderful musical style that equals Fortune –N–
Fame, the new hot music sensation.
